What a joy it was to deliver this
gift in person for her very first Birthday!
We began this project in October
2006. I wanted to make something really special for Eva's first birthday,
something she would have her entire lifetime and an heirloom she could share
when she is grown. Steve worked diligently to cut the pattern and
experienced many pitfalls throughout the project. Some of the wood cracked
and needed replaced and re-cut. We both sanded each piece and stopped
counting the number of times. We tried three different paints before
finding ones that worked together and still they did not suit my liking for
coverage. Putting the pieces together was a real trick especially getting
him to secure squarely to the rockers. But as always we love a challenge
and enjoy doing projects together. I was inspired for the brilliant colors
when I saw the photos of Eva on the Merry Go Round horse at Christmas and tried
to create a similar effect but using black and beige as the primary colors to
match colors in their new home.
