Steve and I create works of art in wood. The typical wood used is baltic birch, which comes in numerous thicknesses. The pattern is drawn and traced onto the wood. Individual pieces are hand cut with a sabre saw. The pieces are then sanded and painted or stained. Pieces are put together in a series of layers for a 3-D effect and then positioned in a shadow-box frame. Frames are made from a variety of woods, i.e., old barnwood, oak, redwood, etc., all of which are handmade. An inside border is added and the work is complete. Modern - The more modern works are my personal favorites. I especially like the added effects of the brass in the hats and assorted dried flowers and beads, which all make a more lifelike piece.
